Decision

Life can be challenging, and in every area. We face obstacles, choices, options, that sometimes pull us out of our comfort zone, causing panic. Oh sweet comfort zone, we love it, don’t we? It is the place where we feel good, and even if we do not like our current situation and want to change it, we are reluctant to leave this comfy, secure atmosphere. So when life happens, when walls rise before us, when 2 life paths leading to 2 opposite directions appear, we need to take a decision and the right one! But what is the right decision?

I truly believe that there are no right or wrong decisions, only decisions. When a dilemma occurs in your life, at first you are lost, you do not really know what to think, what to choose. So you go to your siblings and friends for advice, you ask them what they would do if they were you. Do you know that it is the worst thing to do? Your people’s opinion will confuse you because they will tell you what they think according to their beliefs, their paradigms, and their opinion. But they are not you; they cannot make the decision for you. You are the only one able to make it.

Then the inner dialogue begins. You compare the options, the battle of «what ifs» rages in your mind. You make a list of pros and cons, you think you will choose this and the day after you change to that, you just go round and round in circles, trying to figure out what is the option you will not regret once the decision is made. So it is your brain talking, your conscious mind, your reason. But have you heard of the saying «Listen to your heart»? Yes, this beating organ in your body, the place of all emotions, the kingdom of instinct and gut feeling! I guess now you get where I am going here…

You do not want to disappoint your parents, your friends. You were taught values, beliefs about money, love, security, freedom, etc. But when you have a life-changing decision to take, what do you truly want? Do you want to please your people or do you want to make the choice that really drives you? When it comes to big decisions, be sure that your instinct and your heart always know the answer. Yes, I know that sometimes you cannot really make the difference between what your heart is telling you and what your mind is, so I have a little exercise to help you listen to your heart.

Lay down and relax. If you do not practice meditation, you may not know how to quickly get into a relaxed state, so just focus on your breathing.

Take a few deep breathes and imagine that all the tensions leave your body on the exhale.

Once you are relaxed, focus on your heart. Feel it beating, feel it pumping blood in every part of your body.

Then, think about this decision you have to make, think about the different options, and see how your body react to them. We all have different ways to react. For example, I know that my heart is reacting positively when I feel it beating faster and louder, and negatively when I cannot feel it beating at all.

Try to find your way to speak to your heart, try to recognize how it feels when your whole body says yes to what your mind is telling him.

We are used and trained to listen to our external environment rather than our own selves. But all the answers we are looking for can be found in ourselves, we just need to learn to listen carefully. Whatever the decision you have to make is, just remember that you will never make the wrong choice, as long as you are in peace with your inner conviction. Do not be scared to leave your comfort zone if your guts tell you so, it is always worth it. And opportunities will always come your way, so remove the word remorse from your vocabulary, and go out there build the life you want for you.
