How To Use Your Higher Mental Faculties To Transform Your Life

The key to mind mastery in the achievement of your dreams and goals

By Cecile Thomas

The 5 senses allow us to hear, see, touch, taste and smell and they are the senses connected to our conscious mind so we experience the world as it is. Mental faculties, on the other hand, have an impact on your subconscious mind, and play a major role in creating a reality aligned with your heart’s desires, beyond the limitations of the physical senses.

Your thoughts have a direct impact on your results as per the Laws of Nature. Developing your higher mental faculties is a powerful way to creating thoughts that will produce the success that you want.

The game of life is a mind game.

If your faculties are not developed, they are unconsciously applied and leaving you unaware of the possibility of obtaining better results than you may currently be getting.

No other being on this planet can claim to possess the mental faculties humans have. It’s your job to develop them individually so you can impact the outcomes of your life experience.

“The powers of the mind are like the rays of the sun when they are concentrated they illumine.”   – Swami Vivekananda

1- Reason

Reason is an important mental faculty to draw conclusions from ideas, situations, or premises and is often confused with logic. But reason can be illogical and based on a set of false assumptions.

Bare with me here…

Reason gives you the ability to choose your thoughts, to really think, to be consciously aware of the thoughts and ideas that come to your mind, and to choose to reject or accept them into your reality. Reason analyzes, compares, and evaluates ideas, and it helps you make better choices.

It’s about thinking (not to be mistaken with having a mental activity, which is not always thinking! *wink wink*).

Thinking is the highest function you are capable of and this mental faculty should be exercised at every possible opportunity.

Thought is the preamble to everything in your life. We become what we think about.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of people rarely think, they simply accept what they see or hear.

Next time someone gives you a suggestion, rather than simply accepting and acting on the suggestion – THINK – exercise your reasoning factor. Ask yourself if the suggestion will improve the quality of your life. If not, reject it and find one that will!

2- Perception

Perception is the way you interact and interpret everything in your world. Simply put, it’s the way you’re looking at the world and your life.

Perception is formed by beliefs, genetic factors, life experience, sense of right and wrong, etc. All of these factors will act as filters through which we’ll interpret the world outside of us.

When we consciously choose to get out of our own perception and filters, then we can become more resourceful, find solutions when we thought our back was against the wall.

When you consciously get out of your own perception and set of beliefs, that’s when you can make a change in your reality.

Remember those 3D glasses with one side being blue and the other red? (80s and 90s kids, raise your hand!)

You could play with them and choose to look at the world through one of those colors, or both of them. The same goes with perception. You can choose to see the universe as a dangerous place where it’s hard to succeed, or to see it has a place of abundance where all of your desires are accessible.

When you change the structure of your perception, you change the structure of your world.

If you feel stuck right now, play around with different perceptions of your situation, think outside the box, and see what solutions you come up with.

3- Memory

Memory is the faculty by which the mind stores and remembers information, feelings, emotions and everything that we have experienced. If you remember something that happened in the past, you can get a feeling of that moment in the present moment, and an even stronger one if that event deeply affected you (positively or negatively).

By recalling these memories, you activate a vibration in the present moment to which the Law of Attraction will respond. And when a memory feels bad, you’ll activate a vibration that won’t serve you much in reaching your goals. So when this happens, use your mental faculty of memory to imagine the way you would have liked to have responded in that moment.

You are then creating a memory which will make it more likely that next time a similar situation arises you will respond and not react.

The cool thing is that our memory can also help us bring our dream into reality when we create a memory going forward.

Future memory is the capacity to use your imagination to form a picture of your dream and then remember what if feels like to live that life

This is what star athletes do and it has been shown to improve their results. They create a future memory for an upcoming competition. They imagine themselves running the winning race and standing on the podium.

Whether you have an upcoming interview for the job of your dream, a date with your crush or anything that could be the bridge to getting what you want, force yourself to create the memory of the outcome you want and the associated feeling, and your subconscious will impress that so your results align with it.

4- Will

Will is a mental faculty that gives you the ability to hold one idea on the screen of your mind to the exclusion of all outside distraction. In other words, it’s the faculty that will help you keep your eyes on the prize!

Using your will is exercising discipline when you have challenges and setbacks in your journey and making a conscious choice to stay on the right path.

As an example, it’s about not eating the chocolate cake that smells so good because the image of your perfect body is always at the back of your mind.

Yes, I know, with the overload of information and a small attention span, how is it possible to exclusively keep our focus on what we want to create?

Plain and simple, learn to concentrate. If you don’t meditate, just draw a small dot on your wall and stare at it, only at it. When your mind wanders (and it will), simply acknowledge the thoughts and get back to focusing on the dot, again and again. Then do the same when you try to focus on your dream and exterior distractions come to you.

And remember, having a clear image of what you want to manifest is the key to draw to you the resources so it can become a reality!

5- Imagination

It’s the greatest creative faculty we possess. And you should know by now that we create our future in every waking moment, with every thought we send out into the Universe. That’s why imagination is our best ally in creating the perfect picture of what we want our lives to be, our experiences to feel like.

As a child, well-meaning adults may have told you that you couldn’t be an astronaut, an actor, a doctor. Some may have even told you that you wouldn’t achieve anything great. So you believed them and stayed in line, muting your imagination and merely using it to daydream or make up stories that would never come true. You learned to let your dream go.

Now that you’re an adult, you sometimes get ideas and the desire to create something new. In these moments, you have 2 options: keep it alive by letting your imagination flow and guide you on the path by picturing yourself reaching your goal, or ignore it completely and do nothing about it.

Everything in your environment, from your car to your water bottle came from the imagination of a human being, and you can enjoy them today because they went through the thousand ways to bring them to reality in their mind, just like kids creating marvelous adventures in their life.

Nurture your ideas, build an image of how you want to live, and don’t be afraid to dream big, you may be surprised by what happens.

6- Intuition

Intuition is your heart’s voice, your divine guidance to make your dreams come true, if you’re willing to listen.

This faculty can be seen as the opposite of the ego. Intuition would be the angel on your shoulder, ego the tiny devil on the other. Do you ever have urges to do something out of nowhere but don’t really pay attention to them? Do you ever get inspired all of a sudden but then don’t act on it? That’s the constant battle you’re in when you let your ego run the show.

Your intuition knows if you’re true to yourself, it gives you signals and nudges when the timing to act on your dreams is right, when what you want to create is for the higher good. You are part of this infinite universe and you’re an infinite being having a physical experience. The urges, feelings, nudges you get from your intuition are simply the text messages that the universe is sending you to tell you if you’re on the way to reach your goals or if you should make a turn.

Intuition comes from the inside out and is there to remind you that you don’t need to look outside of you to find happiness. To improve this faculty, I only have one thing to say, follow your heart and most of all to listen to what it has to say. It knows better than your mind…

Master your mind and you master your life. It either controls you, or you control it.

Train your mind like you train your body. Exercise often, and watch your life transform.
